Topic: THE IMPORTANCE OF WAITING
Text: Read: Psalm 5:3
Daily Bible Study: Num. 29-30; Mk. 9
“My voice shall thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up” (Ps. 5:3).
When Jesus commissioned His disciples to preach the Gospel to all parts of the world, He told them to wait until the Holy Spirit had come upon them. They were to patiently wait for the empowerment of the Holy Ghost for effective ministration. This they did patiently while continuing in prayer and praises to God. From the time Prophet Nehemiah received the account from the men of Judah until he took action was a period of about four months. Nehemiah didn't rush into things. He spent time in God's presence, discerning God's will, counting the cost of obedience, and preparing himself for the challenge ahead. Waiting is a very important part of preparing ourselves for service to God.
Before you attempt great things for God, you must learn to wait for God's timing. When God says, “Wait,” He is telling us, “Be patient. I'm preparing you to attempt great things for My Kingdom.” Impatient people are usually very nervous. This nervousness leads them to often act foolishly and out of God’s will and plan. The Holy Spirit cannot occupy an impatient believer.
As God’s children, we must be willing to wait on Him. And while waiting, we should be filled with faith, not doubting and continue in praise and thanksgiving, not complaining or murmuring. When we imbibe the spirit of patience, even our normal day-to-day activities will be free of errors and we will be perfected at all we set out to do.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please teach me to be patient and learn to wait on You. Help me to completely surrender my will to You. I pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
