THE VOICE OF CHRIST (DAILY SPIRITUAL LESSONS)
Date: SUNDAY JANUARY 13, 2019
Topic: BE ATTENTIVE IN GOD'S PRESENCE
Text: Read: Acts 20:7-12
Daily Bible Study: Genesis 30-31; Psalm 13.
And there sat in a window, a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep and fell down and was taken up dead (Acts 20:9).
When a true preacher of God's word visits a town, his sermon is always spectacular the message, the attendance and the powerful prayers he offers all sum up into an impartation service. Apostle Paul had such an impartation service with the brethren in Troas. The service lasted overnight with brother Eutychus in attendance, who couldn't resist sleep and fell off from the third floor of the building where the service was held.
One would expect only those who were serious minded to attend such a meeting, though they didnt know Apostle Paul would preach that long past midnight. People often laugh at Eutychus for sleeping off, but what of those who sleep off during church services, night vigils and prayers; those whose minds wander away from ongoing preaching and even those who attend several revival meetings with no significant or commensurate positive change in their entire Christian lives? The reason is simply due to lack of fear for God, thus making us not attentive and focused on His service. How many can dare to sleep off if the governor of a state was addressing them or if the president of their country was giving a speech in their presence?
We must learn to appear before God with fear and Holy reverence. Then we will be attentive and focused on the message before us. As believers, we should endeavour to make adequate preparations before attending Church meetings and not get over worked and stressed so much that we become too tired and fall asleep on arrival at the meeting. Every moment you spend before God should count!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, uphold me from falling into spiritual slumber, especially in Your presence, I pray in Christ's name Amen.
