Topic: RESULTS OF BAD LEADERSHIP
Text: Read: 1 Kings 17:1-7
Daily Bible Study: Gen. 25-26; Matt. 7

“As the lord God of Israel liveth....there shall not be dew nor rain these three years, but according to my word” (1 Kgs. 17:1).

After a number of Kings had come and gone, Ahab became king of Israel. He sinned even more than the kings before him and married a woman named Jezebel who was very wicked. Ahab and Jezebel worshipped the harvest god Baal and encouraged all Israel to do same, thus incurring the wrath of God. Elijah the prophet of God told King Ahab that there would be no rain or dew for the next three years due to his wickedness and bad leadership along with the evil practices of his wife Queen Jezebel. There was sore famine, hunger and hardship in the land of Israel due to lack of rainfall.

There are many examples of how leaders can cause much suffering and hardship in a country. Many devastating wars have been started by the decisions of few leaders, resulting in the deaths of many and causing many to be orphans, father-less and widows. The world is blessed with wealth and many natural resources. Despite these blessings some countries remain ravaged by poverty due to bad leadership and misuse of the wealth God has blessed them with.
Our duty is to teach our children right and instill godly discipline into them so when they grow up to be leaders in the future, they will lead well and with the fear of God. Presently, we should pray God earnestly to give us good leaders with the fear of God; else we will always be in hardship.

Prayer: O ‘Lord’ our Father, please bless us with the right leaders that will fear You and lead righteously. Grant us the grace to enjoy Your blessings, we pray in Jesus name – Amen.
