Topic: FINISHING WELL
Text: Read: Philippians 1:20-26
Daily Bible Study: Gen. 27-28; Ps. 7

“Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him” (Acts 28:31).

If you visit Rome today, you can still see the dungeon that once housed Apostle Paul. You can stand within his tight cell. It has no windows, no doors, no way of escape; and yet, for Paul, it was neither a place of defeat nor fear. It was a place of both victory and hope. When Paul got to Rome, the first thing he did was to preach the Gospel. They objected, but Paul knew that objections and objectors could not halt the work of God.

Paul's insistence to preach the Gospel of Christ led him to three years in a Caesarean prison and two years under house arrest in Rome. But in these inconvenient situations, Paul preached to kings and governors. Under house arrest in Rome, Paul wrote the epistles to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and 2nd Timothy. From his Roman dungeon Paul was led to his execution. Luke, the author of the book of Acts, didn't end the book with information about Paul's execution. The details of Paul's death were not important. What is important is that he accomplished his mission and finished well.
Days before he met Jesus face to face, Paul was able to say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…” (2 Tim. 4:7-8). May the example of Paul inspire you in the strength of the Holy Spirit to run the race set before you so that you may finish well and get the prize.

Prayer: Merciful Father, thank You for the example of so many faithful men. Help me to remain faithful and also finish well, I pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
