Topic: BEWARE OF THE MASTER OF DECEPTION
Text: Read: 1 Peter 5:8
Daily Bible Study: Lev. 18-19; Ps. 27

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8).

Popular culture portrays Satan as a red creature with horns and a pitchfork. But in reality he manifests in less menacing and less obvious forms. He is the evil master of deception and camouflage, adept at sneaking into peoples’ lives undetected. As Scripture tells us, “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). To fight this enemy, we must first recognize him. He may come disguised as a friend, but his aim is to deceive us and make us to live as enemies against God our Father.
Satan fell because of questioning God's supreme authority. Since the time of Adam and Eve, the devil has continued to spread this rebellious thought-pattern to humanity. Man is always trying to twist God's Word to justify his desires and sins. Satan is “the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient” (Ephesians 2:2); encouraging them to go against God’s will.
One of the favourite battlefields of Satan is the church because the strength and unity of the church is the downfall of his kingdom. He plants dissension among churchgoers to become more focused on materialism and power struggles than on the work of God. He directs our focus on having our desires met, not because he wants us happy, but because he wants us disgruntled and distracted. When the church gets enmeshed in power tussle and material riches, focus is taken away from holiness, righteousness and salvation in Christ. We should all beware of the devil’s deceptions.

Prayer: Almighty Father, help us to recognize the tricks of the deceiver and not fall for it. Help us to rely and trust in You to fulfill all our needs. We pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
