Topic: WHAT OBEDIENCE ENTAILS
Text: Read: Genesis 6:22
Daily Bible Study: Ex. 21-22; Ps. 18
“Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he” (Gen. 6:22).
The Bible teaches that obeying God’s will is doing what God has said, in the way He has said it, when He has said it should be done and for the reason He has given for it to be done. The book of Matthew7:21 states that, “Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in Heaven”. Thus, genuine obedience to God means submitting to God’s will completely.
God gave Noah specific commands pertaining to the material to be used and dimensions for the ark. Noah did exactly as God had commanded, even though it took him about 100 years. We should stick to what God says even when it seems unfavourable to us. In the end, Noah, his family and all the animals with them in the ark were saved. Obeying God absolutely not only pleases God but also favours us and preserves our lives.
Obedience involves faith and willingness (Heb. 11:8). Jesus said in the book of John 14:15, “if you love me, keep my commandments”, and verse 21 says that whosoever keeps His commandment is the one that loves Him and whoever loves Him “shall be loved of my father and I will love him…” Obedience entails suffering or inconveniences. In obedience to the Father, Christ suffered even unto death. To the believer, obedience to God in some situations will involve suffering or inconveniences or both. But at the end, we end up always on the smiling side after obeying God absolutely.
Prayer: Dear God, help to remove pride and stubbornness from us that hinders our obedience to You. Help us to submit always to Your will and obey You completely as instructed. We pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
