Topic: REMEMBERING HIS BLESSINGS
Text: Read: Psalm 42:6-10
Daily Bible Study: Ex. 17-18; Ps. 17
“…remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand…” (Deut. 5:15).
Throughout the Scripture we see the heart of God revealed and His disappointment when His people forget Him and His past mercies, blessings, and grace. In fact, the reason God established all the festivals and celebrations, was for the Israelites to constantly remember God's gracious hand that delivered them out of slavery in Egypt and brought them into the Promised Land. He wanted to provide a visible, tangible reminder of His work. In the New Testament, the reason our Lord Jesus established the Lord's Supper and baptism was for us to remember His great sacrifice and indescribable love towards us.
Why does God want us to remember His blessings and mercies? Every time you recall the depth of God's love for you, your heart melts in praise and thanksgiving to Him, thus drawing you closer to Him.
Every time you remember His matchless love, it brings healing and wholeness, challenging you to respond with praise and surrender. Every time you recall His immense sacrifice, it brings hope and trust and re-affirms His love towards us.
Our past memories are linked to our future hope. Psalm 42 is a great example of how loving the Lord with your memory can fill you with hope, pull you out of the pit of discouragement, and propel you into more fervent faith. Believers who are truly faithful will continue to pursue a deeper relationship with God, no matter what their feelings or outward circumstances may be.
Prayer: Great God, thank You for the many ways You have delivered, helped, healed, and provided for me. Teach me more of You and help me to dwell in Your faithfulness. I pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
