Topic: AVOID ONE-SIDED RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Text: Read: John 15:5
Daily Bible Study: Lev. 26-27; Ps. 29
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5).
Do you have people in your life who only come to you when they want something from you? Conversations that always revolve around the other person's needs make it hard to develop true friendship. These one-sided relationships can lead to us feeling used and manipulated. Yet that is exactly what we do to God when we only approach Him in prayer with a list of needs and desires.
We often give God our long lists of prayer requests without spending any time praising Him, thanking Him for our past blessings, or seeking a relationship with Him. We pray concerning future events without acknowledging His help in the past. Our forgetfulness is an indication of our ingratitude towards God and it renders our prayers ineffective.
God knows we are a forgetful and ungrateful people. He knows our reasons for reinventing the truth and taking credit for His provisions. This is why He often reminded the children of Israel to set up visible memorials of His past provisions so they would be filled with prayer and praise. Without these reminders, the people would forget God's faithfulness. We know better now not to forget the countless blessings, mercies and favours of God unto us. Our prayers should be filled with praise and thanksgiving. We should open up our hearts to God to hear Him speak to us. That is the type of relationship He wants to have with us.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for loving and saving me. Please grant me the heart to thank You always, praise, adore and seek a closer relationship with You. I pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
